Odds or Evens

On this day in Sweet Stick history.....

July 17th, 1986

Today, as a member of the Prince William Cannons, Sweet Stick was put into the game in the eighth inning to pinch run for starting shortstop Johnny "So Nice" Johnson.

While attempting to steal on the 3-1 pitch, Sweet Stick pulled up limp, short of second base, while grabbing the small of his back. He was thrown out easily, recording the final out of the inning.

Afterward, Sweet Stick was quoted as saying, "My back is a little sore from sleeping on the floor of the hotel room. Six straight days now I've lost a game of 'Odds or Evens' to Chubs (ed. note, referring to closer Ricky "Chubs" Powell), so he's had the bed. It's a long season and you'll have streaks like this. I mean, just last month I won four straight hands of acey-duecy, for a quarter a hand. It's all part of the game."
